About This Emission Zone

What You Need to Know Before You Leave

Welcome to our comprehensive information page about the emissions sticker and environmental zone in Bremen. Here, you'll find everything you need to know about the implementation of the environmental zone in Bremen, the required emissions sticker, exceptions, parking options outside the zone, and other important information.

Implementation of the Low Emissions Zone in Bremen

Since January 1, 2009, it has been mandatory to have an emissions sticker if you want to drive into the city centre of Bremen. This measure was introduced to improve air quality by restricting polluting vehicles in the city. Please note: this requirement does not apply to the nearby city of Bremerhaven.

Map of the Environmental Zone Bremen

The environmental zone in Bremen is clearly marked on the map with an orange highlight. This area includes not only the historic centre but also parts of Finndorf, the Eastern Suburb, and Neustadt. At the entrance to the environmental zone, there are signs indicating that a valid emissions sticker is required. An exception applies to a section of Breitenweg, where businesses are located near the station, and where you can drive without an emissions sticker to access specific parking spaces for campers.

Exceptions

Bremen does not have through roads outside the environmental zone. The only part of the city where the requirement does not apply is a section of Breitenweg, marked with a blue line on the map. This road is intended for accessing businesses and parking spaces at the station. However, Hochstraße Breitenweg is part of the environmental zone, so check your route carefully when entering this area.

Parking Outside the Environmental Zone in Bremen

If you do not have an emissions sticker or drive a vehicle that does not qualify for a green sticker, you can park outside the environmental zone. A convenient option for this is the P+R Bürgerweide (A on the map), just outside the zone. This car park offers 2,800 spaces and is within walking distance of the centre (about 20 minutes). Alternatively, you can take the tram, which departs from a stop at the edge of the car park. Keep in mind that public transport may be more expensive than the cost of an emissions sticker, especially if you're travelling with multiple people.

What Emissions Sticker Do You Need in Bremen?

In Bremen, as in most German cities, the green emissions sticker is required. Do you have an older car that does not qualify for a green sticker? Then consider parking outside the environmental zone or using public transport to reach the centre.

Availability of Emissions Stickers for Bremen

You can obtain the emissions sticker in several ways:

Order Your Emissions Sticker for Bremen Online:

While Bremen does not offer the option to purchase the sticker directly through their own website, you can easily order a sticker via other websites. The sticker is usually sent by post within one working day. This sticker is valid not only in Bremen but in all German environmental zones.

Buy Your Emissions Sticker Along the Road in Bremen:

Are you leaving soon and don’t have time to wait for the post? You can also purchase the sticker at car garages and branches of DEKRA and TÜV along the (motor)ways. Please note that petrol stations often do not sell stickers and that opening hours on weekends may be limited, and you may have to wait for your sticker. Online is the easier option.
