About This Emission Zone

What You Need to Know Before You Leave

Welcome to our comprehensive information page about the emissions sticker and emission zone in Oberhausen. Here, you'll find everything you need to know about the introduction of the environmental zone in Oberhausen, which emissions sticker is required, exceptions, parking options outside the zone, and other relevant information. We’re here to help you navigate the Oberhausen emission zone with ease.

Introduction of the Oberhausen Emission Zone

Since 1st October 2008, Oberhausen has been one of the German cities with an emission zone. In 2012, this zone was expanded and incorporated into the larger Ruhr area emission zone. This means that in Oberhausen and the surrounding area, you are required to have an emissions sticker on your vehicle to improve air quality.

Oberhausen Emission Zone on the Map

The Oberhausen emission zone is marked as the orange area on the map. The centre of Oberhausen is entirely within this zone, which also extends into the broader Ruhr area emission zone. For trips to Movie Park Germany, located north of the city, an emissions sticker is not required, as this area lies outside the emission zone. However, for a visit to the famous large Christmas market, an emissions sticker is necessary.

Exceptions to the Oberhausen Emission Zone

The motorways A2, A3, A42, and A516 are exceptions to the emission zone. This means you can pass through Oberhausen on these roads without an emissions sticker. The B223, which connects the A516 to the centre of Oberhausen, is also exempt from the regulation as long as you do not drive further into the city. Unfortunately, the Oberhausen Christmas market cannot be accessed without an emissions sticker. The MAN production facility is also accessible without an emissions sticker as it is located directly next to the A516.

Parking Outside Oberhausen

Parking on the outskirts of Oberhausen can be challenging as the east, south, and west sides are completely enveloped by the Ruhr area emission zone. One option is to park at the Netto or McDonald's on Weierstraße, from where you can walk 2 kilometers to the Sterkrade train/tram/bus station to catch a tram or train to the centre. An easier option is the MAN ES parking lot, where you’ll find all necessary public transport options just a 3-minute walk away. The centre is only 10 minutes away by public transport from there.  However, the easiest solution is to simply purchase an emissions sticker. This emissions sticker is very long-lasting (read more).

Which Emissions Sticker is Required in Oberhausen?

In Oberhausen, the green emissions sticker is mandatory. This is also the standard across the rest of the Ruhr area. Without this sticker, you risk a fine of £100 if you enter the emission zone.
